Worry is a negative habit that can be changed. Before I talk about how to kick it out of your life, I have to admit that I personally indulged in this destructive habit for many years and gave it complete control over my thinking. It took me a while to get rid of it, however once you see it for what it is, I’m sure you will get rid of the worry habit.
First let me be clear about something. I think that worry is a feeling that comes from the unknown. We look at the future and if there is no certainty about it, we worry about what would happen to us, what if this happens and that happens. We get stuck in this cycle of negative emotions that get us depressed and slowly kill our spirit.
We all have to be alarmed about some things. If you cross the street in rush hour you have to be alarmed, otherwise you will put yourself in danger. But, being alarmed is not worry. Most people think that it is natural to worry about the future. Well it’s not natural. It’s a one way of looking at things. It’s a choice of attitude. Why ? Because worry is negative, it’s not neutral. Worry is a depletion of constructive emotions. Worry is a lack of all the facts. It present you with how things might go wrong. If we are to be objective and reasonable about life. We have to see that it is both negative and positive. That we have a choice.
Worry wants you to believe that the elevator only goes down ( to hell ). However, we know that the elevator goes up as well. In my years of study I found that worry comes mostly from lack of confidence. Which comes from the absence of any definite future plans and the discipline to accomplish them.
“Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy.” ~Leo Buscaglia
Discipline is what can kill your worries. Because worry is the absence of discipline. Why worry about the amount in your bank account when you can discipline yourself to be wealthy. Why worry about what people will think of you when you can develop your character and become more powerful, influential and happy. Discipline is the simple way to kick your worry habit. Maybe that’s what you need now. More discipline. I don’t know you. I’m not familiar with your problems. You know yourself better than anyone.
The best advice I can give you about this subject from my own struggles and personal experience with this maladaptive habit, is that it is tricky to talk to your worries in your head. More often than not your worries will take over using the power of your imagination against you, creating fear and anxiety. The only way to win this inner fight is by taking it out of your head and putting it on paper.
This way you are creating a space between you and the problem (worry). After doing that you can analyse it objectively and realistically. So write your worries down, it might feel weird for you to do this. But I promise that you will be on your way for a happier and joyful life, free of worry. To finish my advice I suggest you take a look at your disciplines and see if you’ve let somethings slide. Maybe this lack of discipline is feeding your worries because at a deeper subconscious level you might feel out of control and not worthy of your goals.
Discipline is always the cure. Why ? Because Discipline is life and Life is discipline. You don’t agree ? Well, let us ask your heart (literally), let us see if it can take a break and ease up a bit for a couple of minutes. Oh No ! You would be dead ! You see, life itself is created with discipline. Only human beings have the power of choice. Most of them choose not to follow the habits of nature. Don’t let that be you. Get disciplined. Be disciplined. Worry won’t have chance.
